They met a few hours ago. It was a botany workshop and the instructor shared some of her knowledge with the new class about different plants. It was a bit weird to hear one another’s characteristics and introduction from someone else. By the time the room was empty, every plant already knew everything about the other plants present in the room.
Creosote bush asked, “Arugula, if you don’t mind, can I ask you something?”
“Sure, sprinkle..”, Arugula invited warmly.
“Why are you trying to grow up so fast?”
“Not sure if I understand the question! Isn’t it the reason why we were planted? It is the reason why we exist.”
“Well, maybe! How do you know? Are you sure?”
“Someone planted me and takes care of me every day because he wants my leaves. That’s my goal, to keep my sower happy.”
“But.. let’s say.. for some reason there’s a draught or something is wrong with water facilities, and your gardener can’t water you, then?”
“Then what?”
“Shouldn’t you grow at a slower speed so you don’t need as much water as a mature version of you would need? Maybe wait until you’re ready to live without water for a few days? More leaves just mean you need more food.”
“I don’t know how much time my farmer has left. I’d rather see him happy, so he would be proud of himself and I can be of some help to him. “
“But what if for some reason you hadn’t turned into a plant from a seed?”
“So, what? That’s not under my control.”
“Exactly. Why should you care what he wants? Also.. what after he dies?”
“Well, then I can do whatever I want.”
“Like what? Have you figured out what your goal would be?”
“Not really. Will figure something out. It shouldn’t be that hard.”
“You wish! But it might be too late to change who you are if you wait that long.”
“What opportunities are you exploring by taking your own time then?”
“Are you saying we are both clueless about what we want and just are doing what we feel is right? If yes, what’s the point of this whole conversation?”
“Well, people who can understand, will understand. You can only be who you are supposed to be. “
“What does that even mean?”
“I wish Arugula wasn’t present in that philosophy class.”, Radish sighed beneath the soil.
